Sam Crittenden
Sam began his career serving as an infantry rifleman in the Marines. Since his discharge in 2012, he has been involved in the mining and construction industries. In 2019, Sam graduated from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology with a B.S. in Mining Engineering.
THE COMPANY
Sam and Ethan first met in an explosives engineering class while they were students at the South Dakota School Mines and Technology. Their mutual aspiration to begin their own company ultimately culminated in the creation of Black River Contracting in 2020.
Early work revolved primarily around ranch and farm improvements. Seeing a need, BRC bought its first piece of heavy equipment, a Caterpillar 324E long-reach excavator. The machine's 60 foot reach allowed for cleaning out silted-in stock ponds and drainages that would have been inaccessible to ordinary machines.
Ethan has over ten years of experience in mining, construction, and heavy equipment operation. In 2019, he graduated from South Dakota School of Mines in Technology with a B.S. in Mining Engineering.
Ethan Peterson
While long-reach work still serves as the bulk of BRC's contracts, the company is rapidly expanding into other specialties with the goal of having the ability to complete any and all earth-moving jobs.
